Karen Carlson, a Bethel College and Seminary graduate and 13-year veteran of the real estate brokerage industry, has been with Gaughan Companies for nine years. As the firm’s Controller, she is responsible for the financial direction of the company. Working closely with teams from our Commercial, Residential, Association, Maintenance, and Brokerage divisions, Karen implements sound financial solutions in support of the Gaughan Companies commitment to ethics, integrity, service, and excellence.
She also has accountability for evaluating each individual project’s financial performance on a monthly basis and ensuring that all reporting is accurate and timely. And as if we needed more proof of Karen’s versatility, she also fulfills the Human Resources role for Gaughan Companies, maintaining all employee files and maintaining adherence to all State and Federal regulations.
A mother of three and grandmother of four, Karen enjoys fishing and camping with her husband. They love to travel, as well – in fact, they take an annual road trip vacation in which they visit someplace new every year. But for the most part, there’s nothing Karen would rather be doing than spending time with her husband and their children and grandchildren.
We caught up with Karen this week and asked her to share some thoughts about a couple of key aspects of the Gaughan Companies:

What differentiates Gaughan Companies from other Twin Cities-area real estate brokerage firms?
Our staff genuinely cares about the clients we represent. We stand by our reputation and we always go the extra mile.
What advice would you give to someone interested in pursuing a career in this industry?
Always look forward and strive to be the best at whatever you do.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
It’s being able to continually contribute to the success of our company.

We are very conscientious and always prioritize our clients’ needs first. Is that ten words?
